Decorative Textile Care: What Wholesale Buyers Should Confirm
Illustrative image. Final specifications confirmed at quotation.
Home-textile importers and wholesalers need care information they can pass accurately to their customers. A decorative cushion cover may combine several materials, trims and construction details, so confirm care for the complete design before adding it to a collection.
Before placing a bulk order, ask a more precise question than “Is it washable?” You need to know which care process is suitable and whether it fits how the product will actually be maintained.
Identify the complete construction
Ask about the face fabric, reverse, backing, lining where present, closure and decorative trims. If the product has fringe, tassels or a raised surface, include those details in the care discussion.
A composition statement about the main fabric does not automatically settle the treatment of every other component.
Ask for instructions tied to the item
Request the product reference and its confirmed care guidance. Check that the instruction applies to the design being quoted rather than a similar-looking item.
A useful clarification might be: “Does this care guidance cover the complete cover, including the reverse fabric, zip and fringe?” Keep the answer with the approved specification.
Explain your maintenance process
A hotel using a commercial laundry needs to describe that requirement before approval. A retailer needs care information it can communicate accurately to its customers. Do not assume those are the same question.
If your intended process is not supported by the available information, ask what evidence or further assessment is needed. Do not solve the gap by assigning a temperature, soak time or drying method yourself.
When the care information is incomplete
Keep the item on hold for that intended use until the relevant question is answered. You can continue discussing size, design and quantities, but the missing care information should remain visible in the approval record.
An informal test on one sample may help identify a concern. It is not automatically a validated instruction for every item or every process.
A short care review for buying teams
- Which exact product does the instruction cover?
- Does it account for all components?
- Is it compatible with the intended maintenance process?
- What evidence supports any claimed performance?
- Who will provide the final guidance to staff or customers?
Keep care guidance attached to the variant
Store the confirmed guidance with the product and design reference used in your catalogue and packing brief. Where a collection uses different backings, trims or closures, check whether the same instruction covers every item. Review changes before carrying old care wording into a reorder or a new variant.
For Casa enquiries, share the intended use and care requirements alongside the dimensions and quantities. Product suitability should be discussed against those requirements. Read Casa’s quality and performance approach.
